History of Colorado's Women for Young People
"The remarkable accomplishments of women in the founding and development of
our state have been too long overlooked and too little appreciated. Vivian Sheldon
Epstein makes a significant contribution to our appreciation of these outstanding
Coloradans, who so clearly demonstrated that society can ill afford to ignore or
artificially limit the brain power, talent and energy of half its citizens."

History of Women in Science for Young People
A topic NEVER before approached for ages 9-14
...Epstein introduces this excellent book with a
quote from Rosalyn Yalow, the 1977 Nobel Prize winner in medicine: "The world cannot
afford the loss of talents of half of its people if we are to solve the many problems
which beset us." Accompanied by color and black-and-white illustrations, the succinct
biographies feature the specific contributions of each woman, often tracing her
development as scientist to her childhood interests. The author expands the readers
awareness of the many options available in science by including women from a wide variety
of fields. To dispel the myth that there were no women scientists until recently, the
author uses the last six pages of her book to list, by century, hundreds of women
scientists and their contributions. This extensive list, plus bibliography, provides both
the students and the educator with a wealth of information for further research. In taking
complex subjects and skillfully simplifying them for the young reader, she is making a
significant contribution to the field of childrens literature.
Exciting and challenging lives of women scientists encourages girls to
become involved in science; approved and applauded by educators, librarians, and
scientists in many fields.

History of Women Artists for Children
Motherhood and society's "rules" about what women could and could not
do, made it very difficult for women to become artists. However, despite the
difficulties, some women were able to express their talent and create art.
This book includes the beautiful art work of women, one-half in full color, and
describes the challenges in each woman's life which she overcame to produce her art.
Most history books are written by men and filled with the names of male artists.
The few women artists who did exist, and there were more and more each century,
were rarely discussed because most men thought women's work unimportant. Because
women created in pottery and with a needle, these works were called "craft" and
not "art" and were thought to be less important. They are important and
they can be art.
This book discusses some of the most important women artists of the western
world. There were many other women artists who could not be included in this book
because of size limitations. Each of the women selected has won honors, medals, and
degrees. Their works have also been shown in many museums and other public places.
The author hopes that in the future a book about women artists will not be
necessary. Women should be appreciated for their talent without anyone caring
whether the artist is male or female. At the present time, however, this book
introduces the young reader to the fact that there have always been women artists.
Women, despite many barriers, had the courage, talent, and power to create quality works
of art.

History of Women for Children
Most written history has been recorded by men, seen through men's eyes and with
men's values. There have been many men who have helped and encouraged women to break
through the barriers put up by society, but these men are exceptions.
The story of women differs from place to place throughout the world and one book
should not try to tell the whole story. However, there are many similarities between
the tribal society and the complex society of what has happened to all women; therefore
this book was written. This book describes the history of western culture,
specifically the United States and is an interpretation of history seen through the eyes
of this author.
